One of the joys of woodworking is collecting and using traditional hand tools. In this class, students will learn traditional woodworking techniques while building an heirloom tool chest. All of the construction will be by hand, including joinery (through dovetail and mortise and tenon joints), frame and panel construction, and moldings. Four squaring of stock by hand will also be discussed. Much of the focus will be on the use and care of traditional woodworking tools such as hand planes, chisels, backsaws, and scrapers. By the end of the class students will have a greater appreciation for and knowledge of hand tools and a beautiful tool chest to carry them in.
